Type! Camera! Education! The Scholar Network's service and commitment in Columbus, Ohio

Updated: May 15, 2020

Co-Founder Brittany Stewart was featured on the City of Columbus Channel 10 News for The Scholar Network's commitment to service in communities across the nation.

Two college students, one from right here in Columbus, are launching a new effort to help students and parents through these challenging times.

And they're asking for your help.

Brittany Stewart, 20, is a rising junior at Howard University, and a 2018 graduate of Columbus Alternative High School.

She and a classmate founded "The Scholar Network" to help bridge the gap for students and parents who need a little extra help during this period of "distance learning."

The non-profit offers a virtual homework help center, college readiness webinars, test prep, and virtual storytime.

They are also recruiting other college students or graduates to serve as online tutors.

"We don't want students' academic progress to falter in light of the fact that they're not in their traditional setting any longer. I think the thing that students enjoy most about being in school is the interaction," Stewart said. "Put simply, in these unprecedented times, it's important that everyone answer the call of service, in whatever way they can. What we're simply asking is just your time."

Stewart says in just two weeks, they've recruited more than a hundred college students to be virtual tutors.

The Scholar Network is holding its first virtual storytime Saturday at 2:30.

Services are free to students and families.
